The moment method : an old approach to solve new controllability problems

This talk is dedicated to the moment method in controllability theory for PDEs.
After describing its principle and classical results in this field, I will
discuss recent developments and applications, particularly in cases where
no other technique in the literature seems to be of any help

Revisiting operator splitting methods

 In the 2016 book “Communication, Imaging, Science, and Engineering”,
the editors Roland Glowinski, Stanley J. Osher and Wotao Yin highlight
the vast number of topics and application areas where splitting methods
have had a significant impact. The spectrum ranges from optimization,
computational mechanics, and image processing, to wireless communication, nonlinear optics, and finance.

As a follow-up to the cross-fertilization of ideas proposed by that book,we discuss how to endow some Douglas-Rachford splitting methods with an optimization perspective.
The resulting new family of methods “à la bundle” incorporates a
projective step to coordinate parallel information while
allowing the variation of the proximal parameters and the construction of a reliable stopping test.
